Carrie Sirry - London, Hertfordshire & online
Who are you?
I’m Carrie and I live in North London with my husband and sons, Samy and Zaki. I’ve been a midwife since 2008 and hypnobirthing teacher since 2014. I run a range of birth preparation courses online and in London and Hertfordshire.
What did you want to be when you grew up?
Pregnancy and birth has always fascinated me. I heard to call towards midwifery when I was a teenager but took a slight detour and ended up training in my mid-twenties. I have experience in retail, managing a country pub and sales. At one stage, I had my heart set on being a flight attendant for Virgin Atlantic. As fate would have it, after life had hit a low point, I began working on a gynaecology ward. Working with women during this time reminded me that I wanted to be a midwife. So I applied and the rest, as they say, is her story.
What would your last meal be?
A traditional roast dinner and chocolate fondant for dessert
What do you love about what you do?
Holding space and connecting with others during their life changing rites of passage. Since having my own children, I have been wanting to create a ‘village’ for mothers. This is now starting to build which is really exciting.
If you could give one message to all mothers, what would it be?
I have many messages I would share but when I look at the theme of those messages I guess they come down to following your own instincts as well as your child’s lead, they are your guide through motherhood.
