Slow-paced crafts and festive cards
So it’s only taken me 11 years to find the best way of making toddler Christmas cards – or cards for any festivities you celebrate. Break it down into lots of individual crafts so that your little one doesn’t lose patience two cards in..
1. Handprints – get your little one to dip their hands into coloured paint and make a single handprint on lots of blank cards. Cosmo loves the feel of paint on his hands, so get lots of cards ready to go – they print; you bring in the next card. You can turn a handprint into pretty much anything. We made robins and Christmas trees but check out Pinterest for loads of ideas from season to season.
2. Another day, do some colour mixing with lots of colours (because we all know they will inevitably end up with brown 🤣) and use brushes to bring your handprint to life. We made branches for our robins and trunks for our trees.
3. Next try using stamps. We have little sponge shapes that we used to add snow with some white paint but you could use bubble wrap, a toothbrush or cotton buds. Your little one will love seeing what shapes each one makes.
4. Try sticking for the last activity – we put eyes and beaks on our robins and sequins as decorations on our trees.
5. And voila! You’ve turned out a few weeks of crafts, some beautiful cards for your loved ones, and saved your money for chocolate 🍫
Are you making cards this year? This is literally the only thing I’ve got organised for next month, but it’s one less job to cobble together in December, and I know our family (especially my grandma) will enjoy receiving something handmade.
